One of the best meals I've ever eaten in my life was at the Russian Tea Room in NYC. I was in town anyway, to see a taping of the Anderson Cooper show, so I decided that a nice dinner in a one-of-a-kind local establishment, was in order. Unable to find me a taxi, the doorman at my hotel managed to flag down a limousine. Cool! I was going to arrive at NYC's finest restaurant in a limo!
When I arrived, I started with a drink.
From Russia With Love
Iz Rossiyi s lyubovyu! Champagne, Godiva chocolate liquor and Chambord in one glass.
It was out of this world! Absolutely heavenly. Chanpagne and chocolate is definitely a winning combination.

Next I decided to sample some of their fine caviar. I found the perfect appetizer on the menu to satisfy my craving. For a caviar lover such as myself, this was absolutely awesome!
Three buckwheat blinis with sour cream, chopped boiled eggs, onion, parsley, topped with trout, salmon and white fish roes.

Then it was time for the main course. I chose the wonderful quail shahslik. Quail is a favourite of mine, but I have a hard time finding it. When I saw this item on the menu, I could not resist. It was fantastic!
Grilled Quail skewers brushed with an apple glaze over a mixed quinoa salad.

Between dinner and dessert, I thought a nice traditional servian of Russian tea was in order. They served a lovely pot of black tea, with sour cherries, and of course lots of sugar, exactly the way the Russians make it. They also served little cookies on the side. Fantastic!

Soon it was time for dessert, and again, they did not disappoint. I knew that only the most spectacular-sounding thing on the menu would do. That's why I ordered this!
Czar's Gold and Caviar Parfait
Nougat cream, toasted almonds, chocolate sauce and 24-karat edible gold.
That was beyond delicious, and tasted as wonderful as it looked. WOW!!!!

Then came the rather shocking matter of the bill. Needless to say my beautiful black limousine turned into a big yellow taxi for the ride back to the hotel. :) The food may have been expensive, and the coach may have turned back into a pumpkin, but every penny I spent was worthit. Dinner at the Russian Tea Room in NYC was a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience. I'd love to go back again, if I ever find the money.

The description of the dinner was so "delicious!" it would be a marvelous scene in a short story or a tiny film production. One could pan over the shoulder with the camera and listen as one human being thought aloud about the gourmet experience. Your photography is gorgeous!
Ah. Now that I remmeber it, there was one more time for the smaller limo, and that was in Toronto, again, when I was unable to get a taxi. Again, just a five minute journey. I had eaten breakfast at the Royal York hotel, and was on my way for a free spa day that I'd won on a radio program. The funny thing was that I'd been about three steps infront of this very loud high-powered cellphone-talking executive, all day. Just an obnoxious guy. I got into the elevator first ,and when I heard him screaming behind me, I pushed the button toe close the door, figuring he'd get the next one. I got up there, and he decided to take the stairs, I still got in there first!! He was yelling behind me to someone, that he was late to meet someone in the dining room. The Matra D just ignored him, looked at me and said "your usual table, Ms. Christensen?" When he seated the guy behind me he put him in a different part of the dining room where his rude behaviour would not bother a lot of other people. Then after breakfast I paid, tipped, and went downstairs to find a cab. Would you believe that flippin' exec was behind me again? Not finding a cab the doorman flagged the limo. The guy yelled "GREAT! You got me a limo!" The doorman just laughed and said "no. I'll get you a taxi...eventually. The limo is for the young lady!" :)
